- Project Description:Soft colors of cream and light gold sets a neutral stage in this tour de force of traditional design paired with contemporary design philosophies.
From the exterior the house appears more traditional than contemporary with it’s arched iron entry gate, and glass and iron front door. Once inside, the house opens to a cleaner simpler expression of design counterpoint. The focus of the entry is a circular rotunda that draws you in with a staircase that dramatizes the balance of simple and complex designs. The floor pattern is deftly articulated in stone to accentuate the architecture of the rotunda yet understated with its use of soft cream and gold Jerusalem stone. The drama of the rich peacock blue in the formal living room in contrast with the neutral background, plays with the traditional / non traditional counterpoint of the design for this house.
Light balanced against dark, traditional balanced with non-traditional, symmetrical poised next to asymmetric creates a sophisticated yet visually breathable space. Through out the house light plays an important role,
The rotunda chandelier of hand painted silk emits a soft glow, again Elizabeth’s desire of rallying against the traditional expected “Crystal Chandelier”. The kitchen and family room invites streams of sunlight to reflect upon the natural reclaimed cherry wood floors and plays against the jeweled purples and earthy greens. The vision of these spaces is to create warm, inviting spaces around a family theme. Furniture pieces were custom designed to provide a place for total family enjoyment. Seat cushions are made with fabrics that can be washed or wiped off. A large custom ottoman and coffee table provides a place for children to play games or color while a spacious sofa is an open invitation to a leisurely afternoon nap.
The home office showcases technology at another level with a 14’ glass, granite and maple desk, multiple computer monitors and a flat screen TV. Floating shapes of Knoll Imago panels provides the perfect scrim for a non- glare task light. Bamboo floors and meticulous millwork designed to conceal air supply and intake vents reflect Elizabeth’s passion for detail.
